I can no more hear Love's
Voice. No more moves
The mouth of her. Birds
No more sing. Words
I speak return lonely.
Flowers I pick turn ghostly.
Fire that I burn glows
Pale. No more blows
The wind. Time tells
No more truth. Bells
Ring no more in me.
I am all alone singly.
Lonely rests my head.
—— O my God! I am dead.
Jose Garcia Villa (1908- 1997) is one of the most celebrated poets in the country. He has been named as the National Artist for Litertature and he has won other prestigous awards. This daring contemporary poet is known for his innovative style in poetry, such as in his love poems.
There are no indicated characters in the poem but there is a present person to whom the writer intends to show to the readers. "Her", the woman that the writer pertains to.
The conflict is the writers emotion itself; he feels lonely without the presence of his woman. The persona proclaims that losing one's love can be compared to losing variety of things. He believes that the state of being lonely means a mere death.
This poem is significant for me as it reminds me of the unceasing power of love. It tells how the absense of love can dissipate everything good and beautiful. In the same way, the presence of it one's life can make his world so wonderful. Lastly, it emphasizes that it is truly about having love that we can be alive.
The symbols where the persona associated his feelings with things and objects such as birds, that no more sing when his love went away. As flower, fire, wind and bells with the same reason.
The plot structure of this poem is standard, on what the emotion from the start is, it's the emotion along the rest of the flow of the poem. It is stagnant but developing in terms of the valuing of the associated metaphors.
Very good job. It is clear and easy to understand with a lot of good information.
